Video of the New Year´s Concert in Vienna

by the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra

In 1980, The Vienna Hofburg Orchestra performed their first New Year’s Concert in Vienna in the Festsaal of the Vienna Hofburg. It quickly became a yearly highlight for lovers of classical music.

The program traditionally represents popular works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Strauss family, Franz Lehar and Emmerich Kalman.

The orchestra consists of up to 50 musicians led by an international conductor and accompanied by four excellent opera singers.

Since 2018 the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra performs its New Year’s Concert in the Garden Palace Liechtenstein, one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Vienna.

Classical music in times of a pandemic

In 2020 everything changed because of the Covid 19 pandemic. The Vienna Hofburg Orchestra usually performs around 65 concerts in Vienna every year. Our typical concert season starts in May and ends with the New Year’s Concert on January 1st.

Due to the many restrictions to public life and cultural events we had to cancel all our concerts this year, including our traditional New Year’s Concert.

Since we are not able to perform live for our audience we want to present you a recording of our New Year’s Concert in 2018.
